LAS CRUCES – With the unemployment rate surging across New Mexico due to layoffs in the wake of the COVID-19 public health emergency, hunger relief workers in New Mexico are looking for donations and volunteers to help with the expected influx of those in need of their services.

Casa de Peregrinos and Roadrunner Food Bank, the two prominent food pantries in Las Cruces, are both asking for donations and volunteers and have had to change distribution methods to keep up with social distancing standards.

Plus, private businesses are getting into the act.

On Tuesday, about $10,000 worth of pinto beans and green chile will be distributed free to the community in a partnership between Young Guns Inc. and The Game restaurant.
